Miguel Prieto
Profile
(Spanish - Born : 7 April 1952)

Started to be noticed during the mid-eighties. Mainly concentrated his efforts on the local Spanish championship before eagerly expanding his activities to the international arena. He achieved great results, for instance outright wins in the 1986 Tunisia Rally and in the 1987 Pharaohs Rally. He reinforced his already good reputation as a driver by taking a diesel engine vehicle to a class victory in the 1988 Paris-Dakar. He carried on with diesel engine vehicles, taking a class victory in the Baja Portugal that year. To date he has collected a total of 17 wins in that class. Since the mid-eighties he has continued to compete actively in cross-country rallies in Tunisia, Portugal, Spain, etc. In the 1996 Paris-Dakar, he took a T1 (Production Car) class Mitsubishi Pajero to second place in the category and won the class in the following year. His second place overall in the 1999 Granada-Dakar has only strengthened his already considerable records and in the coming event he will be one to watch. Prieto is expected to do well on this year's Dakar, but like Shinozuka, he will always have in mind his massive crash in last year Paris-Dakar-Cairo Rally, when his car tumbled down a sand dune at high speed.
