Michelin

Michelin Looking Forward to 1999 Granada-Dakar.

Michelin is synonymous with the famous across desert marathon motorsports event, the "Paris-Dakar", and for the last twelve years the French tyre company has been unbeatable on the African tracks. Its specially developed "desert" tyres will once again be the popular choice of the majority of the field.

Michelin is hoping to start 1999 with a victory in this marathon event, which is called the Granada-Dakar Rally this time. Preparation for the Granada-Dakar has been done very thoroughly and, to test the tyres in conditions similar to those found on the "Dakar", a Michelin shod and supported vehicle was entered in the last round of the 1998 World Cup for Cross Country Rallies Series, the UAE Desert Challenge, and came first outright!

Michelin's support program for the Granada-Dakar includes supplying all the Ralliart supported teams, which use a variety of Mitsubishi vehicles from around the world, with the tyres they will need during the event. The ones used by Ralliart teams this year are a development of last year's winning type and are 16/80/16 size.

The history of the relationship between Michelin and Mitsubishi Ralliart is long and has had many successes, but 1998 is particularly special for the relationship between the two because it was on Michelin tyres that the title that Mitsubishi had long dreamed of was achieved; the World Rally Championship for ManufacturersÕ title. To top off the Manufacturers' crown, Tommi Makinen created a new world record on Michelin tyres when he took the World Rally Championship for Driver's for the third consecutive time, all three times on Michelins.
