1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Callenge Cup

Mitsubishi Motors provides 35 Lancers for both
the Mitsubishi Lancer Challenge Cup and
the Ericsson Mitsubishi Jackie Chan Foundation Charity Race

For the 5th consecutive year, the Federation of Automobile Sports of China (FASC) has welcomed the support of Mitsubishi Motors at the China Zhuhai International Race. As it has in the past, Mitsubishi Motors will provide Lancers for the one-make Mitsubishi Lancer Challenge Cup through Ralliart, its wholly owned motor sports subsidiary. However, this year, Mitsubishi is also proud to provide Lancers for the Ericsson Mitsubishi Jackie Chan Foundation Charity Race.

Mitsubishi Motors will provide 20 Lancers, whose successes have been proven in rallies worldwide, for the fifth running of the Mitsubishi Lancer Challenge Cup. For the first time this year, the one-make race will be open to more drivers, in addition to the graduates of China's first racing school. Until last year, Mitsubishi co-sponsored the China Racing School to help raise the level of motorsports in China. Moreover, this year's models feature comprehensive race modifications unlike the gymkhana specifications of the past. The overwhelmingly higher performance provided by the cars should make for an extremely exciting race. Fifteen of the drivers are graduates, while five are members of the Hong Kong press.

In addition, the remaining 15 models will be used in the Ericsson Mitsubishi Jackie Chan Foundation Charity Race. They have been slightly modified to enhance safety and will be driven by actresses whom star in movies and on television in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan.

The China Zhuhai International Race 1998 will be held November 5, 6, 7 at China's first FIA-approved race circuit, which is in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. The qualifying rounds will be held November 5, 6 with the finals on November 7. It will be broadcast throughout China by China Central Television (CCTV) and local networks. Some portions of the event will also be live broadcast in Hong Kong (TVB). Last year's 11-race event was tremendous success that attracted more than 150,000 spectators and countless TV viewers over 4 days. As such, the event represents an excellent opportunity to showcase to a huge audience the performance and reliability of the new Lancer. This is just one example of Mitsubishi's ongoing support for motorsports in China.
